In August 1995 Yi moved to the Netherlands. Until 2002 Yi had several jobs: she was a construction draftswoman at Advies Bureau Steens b.v. and work planner at the engineering bureau of the municipality of Rotterdam, open space planning. Yi decided to study at Wageningen University because of her passion for landscape architecture. Since 2006 she has worked as a technical draftswoman for H+N+S working on projects in the preliminary and final design phase. Because of her background Yi coordinates Chinese projects, publications and contacts.

Yi has a keen interest in all forms of creative design, craftwork and art such as origami.

The translation of a graphic design into technical drawings for among others, Buitenschot Park, New building for the National Institute for Public Health and Environment (RIVM), Genie Park Haarlemmermeer, Ghent Citadel Park, Design and landscape plan N356 The Central Axis, Boxtel cultural historical axis, IJmuiden sea lock, National Military Museum, Construction phase Beatrix Lock.
